Almost all of the fuel oil spilled from tankers that crashed in the Kerch Strait in December 2024 has been removed from the beaches of Anapa, Russian Deputy Prime Minister Vitaly Savelyev said.

“More than 90% of the fuel oil has been removed, and the water is usable. I believe that everything will be according to plan, and we will open the beaches by June 1 of this year for our citizens,” he said on the “Vesti” program after the meeting of the State Committee for Eliminating the Consequences of Emergency Situations (reported by Interfax).

He added that recent tests conducted by Rospotrebnadzor confirmed the safety of Anapa’s eight pebble beaches. “The territories from the village of Bolshoi Utresh to Vysokye Bereg are officially excluded from the emergency zone,” Savelyev said.

Former Association of Tour Operators of Russia (ATOR). I mentionedThat the tourism industry is waiting for a decision on sandy beaches – 40 kilometers of coastline from Vysokye Berezh to Vityazevo. This is where most of the hotels and main resort infrastructure in Anapa are located.

In the Krasnodar Territory, tens of kilometers of coastline were contaminated with fuel oil as a result of the collision of two tankers loaded with petroleum products in mid-December 2024. The tankers transported a total of about 9.2 thousand tons of fuel oil, and at least 2.4 thousand tons of petroleum products ended up in the sea.

In the summer season of 2025, the beaches of Anapa, one of the most popular holiday destinations in Russia, were closed.
