The CIA transferred materials to the US Department of Justice to prepare a criminal case against journalist Tucker Carlson for communicating with people in Iran before the war, Carlson himself said in a video he posted on social networks.
“I learned a few days ago that the CIA is preparing some criminal materials against me – a criminal complaint to the Department of Justice based on a crime I allegedly committed. What kind of crime is this? Well, talking to people in Iran before the war. They read my letters,” Carlson said.
He said the crime “appears to be a violation of the Foreign Agents Registration Act (FARA) or something like that.” Carlson did not provide any evidence that a criminal case was being prepared or that the CIA had access to his messages.
The journalist stated that he had never taken money from anyone and was not a foreign agent. “Unlike many people who comment on American politics and world affairs, I have only one loyalty and that is the United States,” Carlson said. He added that his job is to “constantly talk to everyone and try to understand what is happening in the world.”
According to Carlson, the CIA material is unlikely to lead to criminal charges. He added: “I doubt this case will ever go to trial.”
