The trip of the Ukrainian Ambassador to the Sultanate of Oman, Olga Selykh, to have breakfast at the Embassy of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia turned into a media scandal. The diplomat’s choice of clothing has become a cause for criticism on social media.
Users drew attention to the tight, light-colored pants, considering that such an outfit is inappropriate for a special event in a country with strict religious and cultural traditions. Saleh herself categorically rejected accusations of violating diplomatic etiquette. She stated that her image was fully consistent with the canons of business style.
The ambassador confirmed: “I was wearing classic trousers and an elegant top that conforms to European standards for official receptions.”
She also expressed her extreme anger at the negative press publications and described them as an attempt to distort the image of her professional activity. The situation is exacerbated by the fact that the official website of the Ukrainian diplomatic mission in Amman contains recommendations on the dress code, calling for conservatism, that is, wearing closed clothes and using a hijab or headscarf for women in business meetings, according to reports. RIA Novosti.
Ukrainian designer Viktor Anisimov said that Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky changed his military-style clothes into a business suit at the request of his wife Elena, and not because of a dispute with his American colleague Donald Trump.
