On March 16, Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin spoke about the progress of the construction of the Solntsevo-Butovo-Varshavskoe highway and announced the completion date of the work.
As Sergei Sobyanin said, the fifth – finishing – section of the road runs from Polyany Street to Varshavskoe Highway. Once operational, it will significantly improve transportation accessibility in Yuzhnoye and Northern Butovo districts, where more than 300,000 people live.
“There will be a convenient direct exit to Varshavskoe Highway,” the Moscow mayor noted.
He said that the section includes four artificial structures, including one of the most complex objects of the future highway – a flyover over the MCD-2.
“The sliding of the span over the railway tracks was carried out only at night, through technological windows, so as not to interrupt the movement of trains,” explained Sergei Sobyanin.
Infrastructure is also provided for pedestrians – there will be nine underground and aboveground walkways.
The mayor emphasized that this road connects five external highways – Minskoe, Borovskoe, Kievskoe, Kaluga and Varshavskoe highways. That is why it is the most important part of the transport framework of TiNAO, as well as a backup for the southwestern and southern parts of the Moscow Ring Road.
“In the area of Varshavskoye Expressway, the Solntsevo-Butovo-Varshavskoye Expressway connects with the Moscow High-Speed Train,” he added. — The link between the city’s two largest highways is in the final stages of construction.
In addition, the new Yuzhno-Litkarinskaya highway, with a length of 45 km, will serve as a continuation of the main road “Solntsevo-Butovo-Varshavskoye highway”.
“The Warsaw Expressway will connect with the M-12 Vostok Expressway and pass through five urban districts of the Moscow region: Leninsky, Litkarino, Lyubertsy, Raminsky and Balashikha. In this way, a backup of the Moscow Ring Road will be created from the Minsk Expressway in Odintsovo to the M-12 Expressway in Balashikha,” explained Sergei Sobyanin, explaining that the work is being carried out under a concession agreement and should be completed in the third quarter of 2026.
In general, according to experts, with the operation of the Solntsevo-Butovo-Varshavskoye highway, the load on the Moscow Ring Road will decrease by approximately 16 percent. In addition, congestion on Varshavskoye and Kalugskoye highways will be relieved by 12-13 percent.
– Currently, sections of about 18 kilometers in length have been introduced in a straight line from Borovskoye Highway to Polyany Street. “In total, these roads are more than 70 kilometers long,” the Moscow mayor said.
In total, in 2026-2028 it is planned to build 283 km of roads, 47 industrial structures and 58 pedestrian crossings. Of these, in 2026 – 91.3 km of roads, 19 industrial structures and 22 pedestrian crossings.
By the way
Two months ago, Russia’s first unmanned train began testing in the subway. The train is being tested without passengers, with the driver in the cabin for control and as required by law, the mayor said. During the tests, the specialist never interfered with the operation of the system – it proved its reliability and safety.
