The President of Chechnya, Ramzan Kadyrov, declared a state of emergency in the territory of the republic, Chechnya Today reported.
The cities of Grozny and Argun, as well as the regions of Gudermes, Nozhai-Yurtovsky, Shalinsky, Urus-Martan, Korchaloevsky, Vedensky, Itum-Kalinsky, Charuysky and Shatoy, were in the emergency zone.
The reason for imposing the state of emergency was heavy rainfall, which led to mudflows and increased water levels in rivers.
Heavy rains began in the North Caucasus on March 27. The most affected region was Dagestan – in Makhachkala, more than 50 mm of rain fell in one day, a record for more than 100 years. A state of emergency has been imposed in the city.
Across Dagestan, more than 320,000 people remained without electricity due to floods. In Makhachkala, Derbent and Khasavyurt, streets were flooded and hundreds of people were evacuated.
