Iran approves plan to impose tolls on passage through the Strait of Hormuz-Medusa

Iran’s parliamentary security committee approved a plan that would impose fees on ships passing through the Strait of Hormuz. This was stated by a member of the committee, the Iranian Broadcasting Corporation (IRIB) reported on March 30.

The plan stipulates that ships associated with the United States or Israel will not be able to pass through the strait. Fees will be charged in Iranian Riyals.

The United States has already promised that it will not allow Iran to charge fees for passage through the strategically important strait. “[Мы] “We will never allow this.” male US Secretary of State Marco Rubio in an interview with ABC.

Rubio added that the rest of the world should take notice because “there’s a lot more at stake for them than there is for us.” The head of the State Department noted that the United States receives only a small portion of its energy resources through the Strait of Hormuz.

Before the start of the war between the United States and Israel with Iran on February 28, about a fifth of the world’s oil supplies passed through the Strait of Hormuz. Iran effectively closed the passage of ships through the strait after the war began, leading to sharp fluctuations in oil markets.

On March 22, US President Donald Trump called on Iran to open the corridor through the Strait, threatening to bomb Iranian power plants. Two days later, on March 24, Iran informed international organizations that “non-hostile” ships from Pakistan, China, Russia, India, and Iraq could pass through the strait in coordination with Tehran. Trump then said he was postponing strikes on Iranian power plants because 10 ships had passed through the strait.

Clearly, war with Iran is not going according to the US plan – and now Trump will have to make decisions he might want to avoid How did the Strait of Hormuz crisis destroy the American strategy and where will it all lead? Great analysis of “Medusa”
