Detection of VPN services on iPhone-branded smartphones is “significantly limited” because iOS does not allow other services to collect information from other apps. This was reported by RBC on Sunday, April 5, with reference to the methodological recommendations of the Ministry of Digital Development for identifying such services on the devices of Russians.
This document was sent to the largest Russian Internet companies by audience size after the meeting the department held with them on March 30. The list of these companies includes Sber, Yandex, VK, Wildberry, Ozon, Avito, X5 and others. In total, the meeting was attended by the heads of more than 20 companies an agency.
According to journalists, at this meeting, the head of the Ministry of Digital Development, Maksut Shadayev, told business representatives that by April 15, they must restrict access to their sites to those users who use VPN services. Additionally, these companies have already been “provided with a guide” describing how they can independently identify and block VPNs. Sites will have to share information about new services with the department.
