Mojtaba Khamenei has not yet recovered from his wound, but “he is still clear-headed” – Meduza

Iranian Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei is still recovering from serious injuries to his face and legs sustained in an airstrike on February 28. This was reported to Reuters by three anonymous sources from the inner circle of the new president of the Islamic Republic.

According to the agency’s interlocutors, as a result of the strike on the Supreme Leader’s residence in central Tehran on the first day of the American-Israeli war against Iran, Mojtaba Khamenei’s face, 56 years old, was disfigured, and he was seriously injured in his legs. Meanwhile, sources say, Khamenei remains clear-headed – he participates in meetings with senior Iranian officials via audio conferences and participates in decision-making on important issues, including negotiations with the United States.

Reuters indicates that this information received from sources in Khamenei’s inner circle contains the most detailed description of the Iranian leader’s condition in recent weeks, although the agency was unable to confirm this independently.

Mojtaba Khamenei was wounded on the first day of the US and Israeli attacks on Iran, February 28, and his father, Ali Khamenei, the country’s former supreme leader, was killed. On March 7, Israeli Channel 12 reported, citing sources, that the younger Khamenei was injured. The New York Times later wrote that Mojtaba Khamenei was wounded in the leg. A few days later, the Iranian Foreign Ministry confirmed that Mojtaba Khamenei was injured, but “feels fine.”

On April 7, the British newspaper The Times, citing US and Israeli intelligence data, wrote that Mojtaba Khamenei was undergoing treatment in the Iranian city of Qom and was in a serious condition, unconscious. The next day, when the United States and Iran reached an agreement on a two-week truce, Axios reported that Mojtaba Khamenei was “actively involved” in the negotiations. At the same time, he allegedly followed the strictest secrecy procedures, passing notes with his decisions through couriers. Since his election as the new supreme leader, Mojtaba Khamenei has never appeared in public.
