In the films published in Russian cinemas on the Internet, comments warning that some scenes were deleted from the films due to censorship have attracted attention “Kommersant” and TASS.
Thus, in the film “How to Talk to Girls at Parties”, published on the Kinopoisk website, the message at the beginning of the film states: “In accordance with the current legislation of the Russian Federation, several scenes in the film have been shortened: a total of at least 120 seconds.”
A representative of online cinema told Kommersant that labeling is done by the copyright holders themselves, and the platform does not make changes to the content independently. The newspaper notes that in the case of the movie “How to Talk to Girls at Parties,” the copyright holder is a Russian company.
TASS employees discovered a similar title when watching the French film “Girls on the Balcony” at the Wink online cinema. “In accordance with the current legislation of the Russian Federation, some parts of the film have been deleted or hidden,” the notice notes.
As the agency points out, similar warnings have so far been found in other releases from the same distributor – A-One Films.
Kommersant’s interlocutor at the major streaming service noted that Russian legislation does not require specifying a reduction in the film’s showing time. “Online cinemas themselves do not “cut” projects. So far this is a very controversial issue. If the viewer does not know about the cuts and at the same time watched the content and was satisfied, why do we specifically notify him?” – It is the reasons. In his opinion, this practice will push viewers to search for full pirated copies.
Kommersant notes that online cinemas have been engaging in self-censorship since the end of 2025. This has been affected, among other things, by the law banning films that “distort” traditional values. It came into effect on March 1, 2026. Now, if scenes in films are found to be “creditably offensive,” the streaming service may have its distribution certificates revoked and new ones refused to issue.
