Pichugin’s sentence for fatal violation of naval rules took effect

The ruling against Mikhail Pichugin, who survived two months adrift in the Sea of ​​Okhotsk and was found guilty of murdering his brother and nephew, has taken effect. This was stated by his lawyer, Andrey Ashtoyev, on Monday, May 4.

The tragedy occurred after the men went to the Shantar Islands in August 2024 to watch whales. As a result, their ship lost its way and drifted in the Sea of ​​Okhotsk for 67 days instead of the planned 14 days. Pichugin survived, after which a criminal case was opened against him. The man was sentenced to three years in prison with hard labor, with a deduction of 10 percent of his salary to the state. Pichugin partially admitted responsibility for the death of his brother and nephew.
