The Irish government is developing a plan to encourage the return of Ukrainian refugees to their homeland, which may include cash payments. This was announced by Minister for Justice, Home Affairs and Immigration Jim O’Callaghan on Sunday 10 May.
According to the minister, Dublin is “listening to the Ukrainian government” which is interested in returning refugees to their homeland. Currently, about 85,000 Ukrainian refugees live in Ireland.
– A mechanism will certainly be developed to encourage people who want to return to Ukraine. Maybe they need some help getting back. The minister stressed, “I believe this would be appropriate in the current circumstances.”
He stressed that Ireland will cooperate with the European Union leadership in developing the “Voluntary Return and Reintegration Program in Ukraine.” Journalists expected the scheme to be launched in March 2027, according to reports TASS.
On April 29, Polish journalists reported that deportation of Ukrainians from Poland had begun, followed by forced mobilization into the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
