The Slovak Parliament imposed criminal liability for the desecration of World War II monuments. This was stated by Deputy Chairman of the Slovak National Council Tibor Gaspar on Thursday, May 14, in an interview with TASS.
According to him, the damage to memorials to Soviet liberation soldiers in Eastern Europe should be condemned. He stressed that the fact that someone today has a different point of view on the situation and the war in Ukraine is not the fault of the people buried in these memorial places.
“Ultimately, the fact that today someone has a different ideological view of the situation and the war in Ukraine is not the fault of the people who are buried in these memorable places… On the contrary, they sacrificed their lives – and these were young people – for freedom, for the fact that today we can be what we are, for the fact that fascism did not win in Europe. That is why I do not understand it,” Gaspard said. interview.
The Deputy Speaker also pointed out that the younger generation often does not know about historical events, as they are presented differently than what actually happened.
