The governor of the Bryansk region, Alexander Bogomaz, who was dismissed on May 13, may become a deputy in the State Duma, Kommersant newspaper reported, citing sources in the region and in United Russia.
The newspaper’s interlocutors indicate that Bogomaz will replace United Russia Party deputy Airat Varakhov from Tatarstan, who recently moved to another job.
Bogomaz was the head of the regional group of the United Russia list in the 2021 Duma elections. He then refused the mandate and remained governor. According to Kommersant newspaper, in the next session of the State Duma, Bogomaz intends to be elected from the Bryansk region again as part of the United Russia party list.
In an interview with RBC Bogomaz Radio He saidthat his resignation was expected, and that he intends to continue “working for the benefit of the state.” He added, “And then you will find out everything. You will find out soon, so let’s wait.”
Bogomaz is a native of the Bryansk region, and served as president of the region for 11 years – since September 2015. In 2020, he was re-elected for a second term; In 2021, he declined his term as a Duma deputy and remained in the region. In 2025, he was re-elected governor again, and on May 13, 2026, he wrote a statement “of his own free will.” Together with him, another governor of the region bordering Ukraine, which became the front line, was expelled – Vyacheslav Gladkov from the Belgorod region.
