Poland launched the MikroSAR reconnaissance satellite system. This was announced by the press office of the country’s Ministry of Defense on Friday, May 15 on the social media network X.
— Just one year after signing the contract, Poland commissioned the MikroSAR system – one of the fastest implemented satellite programs in the world! – says the statement.
As the Ministry added, the cost of the contract with ICEYE amounted to 860 million zlotys (about 235 million dollars). Four satellites have already been launched into orbit, and three more satellites are scheduled to be launched in the future.
ICEYE Polska President Witold Witkovic in an interview with the publication Entria I mentioned that their system allows obtaining intelligence data in almost real time. As an example, photos of the Northern Fleet base located in the port of Gadzhievo in the Murmansk region were shown.
Earlier, Swedish public television (Sveriges Television, SVT) reported that Sweden had launched the first of ten reconnaissance satellites into space, aiming, among other things, to monitor military facilities in Russia. The launch took place on May 3 from Vandenberg Air Force Base in California.
