On May 19, Radio Caroline, which broadcasts in southern England and the Midlands, announced the death of King Charles III of Great Britain.
According to listeners, the current broadcast was suddenly interrupted, and the broadcasters announced the cessation of broadcasting due to the death of King Charles III, and then played the national anthem, “God Save the King.” Then the radio stopped for 15 minutes. The returning hosts then apologized for the error.
The station later issued a separate apology, explaining that a computer error had triggered the “Death of the King” protocol, which all UK broadcasters support. After the announcement, the radio stopped, as required by protocol, allowing the error to be detected.
Station director Peter Moore said: “Radio Caroline has enjoyed broadcasting Christmas messages from Her Majesty The Queen, and now The King, and looks forward to doing so for many years to come.”
