Andrey Zvyagintsev does not object to his new film “Minotaur” being watched illegally in Russia.
In a conversation with the Dozhd TV channel, the director expressed confidence that the film will be seen in Russia one way or another.
“At least all those who know how to press the VPN button will definitely see it, because the hackers will have this photo. I don’t mind at all [того, чтобы картину посмотрели нелегально]. “She had no other way,” Zvyagintsev said.
At the same time, the director added that the film crew will try to obtain a distribution certificate for the film “Minotaur” through the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation.
“I wonder how the Ministry of Culture will react. Will they give the film a release certificate or not? I completely understand all the reasons why they would say ‘no’. But I will try to do it. It is also interesting to go down this path. It is interesting the wording, what people will answer,” he noted.
“Minotaur” is Andrey Zvyagintsev’s first film in nine years. In his review of Medusa, film critic Anton Dolin wrote that this is “the first feature film about Russia in the ‘special military operation’ era.”
“Minotaur” participates in the main competition program of the 79th Cannes Film Festival, and is considered one of the main contenders for the main awards. Winners will be announced on the evening of May 23.
