The Ministry of Interior warned of a new fraud scheme with “voice confirmation”

Fraudsters are increasingly using the “Voice Confirmation” system as the first stage of an attack. This was announced on Sunday, May 24 by the Department for Regulation of Combating Illegal Use of Information and Communications Technologies of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation.

According to the administration, the victim is called on behalf of a clinic, insurance company, telecom operator or government agency, informed of the need to “confirm data” and asked to repeat a pre-prepared phrase – for example, about consent to data transfer, replacement of a policy, or confirmation of identity. Next, they begin to convince the person that their voice has been used to formalize power of attorney, log in to services, or “steal biometrics.”

The Ministry of Interior explained that such phrases in and of themselves do not allow access to bank accounts or “government services.” Biometric systems are more complex and are not activated by simply recording the audio of a phone conversation. The main goal of such calls is not technical hacking, but psychological influence. Having created in a person the feeling that an accident has really happened, fraudsters put him in a state of stress and fear, after which they begin a classic multi-stage attack.

It urged management to stop communication immediately if they started the conversation by threatening criminal liability, “leaking biometrics,” transferring money to the “APU,” or demanding to switch to the messenger. message.

Fraudsters have begun introducing new scam schemes, telling victims that all their savings are supposedly part of the Russian Reserve Fund. This is evidenced by the materials of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation. What is known about the new fraudulent scheme is contained in the material “Moscow Evening”.
