French Justice Minister Gerald Darmanin said in an interview with Le Journal du Dimanche that it is necessary in France to impose a three-year ban on immigration.
France has reached the “limits of its ability” to integrate and absorb foreigners. The Minister believes that the migration flow must be significantly reduced. He also suggested:
- Stop issuing residence permits for family reunification to relatives of those who obtained a residence permit through work;
- Reform the French constitution so that the authorities have the opportunity to introduce restricted quotas, and to discuss the number of applicants, their origins and qualifications.
“Let us stop immigration, expel those who should be expelled by making visas conditional on accepting exit orders from French territory, and work to absorb those who are already on national territory,” Darmanin said.
He said it was also necessary to prevent “the encouragement of unbridled capitalism” that exploited cheap foreign labour.
