The drone that struck a residential building in the city of Galati in southeastern Romania on the night of May 29 was made in Russia, and Romanian experts have reached this conclusion. This was stated by Romanian President Nicosor Dan.
He posted pictures of the wreckage of the drone. One of them shows the inscription “Heran-2”. According to Dan, the navigation systems, control units, engine and structural elements “show similarities to the point that they are identical to other Geranium-2 drones previously discovered in Romania.”
The Romanian President said: “Physico-chemical analysis confirmed the presence of the same types of materials and fuel that were repeatedly found in devices of this series. Based on all this data, the investigation clearly concludes that the debris found in Galati belongs to a Russian-made Geranium-2 drone.”
“Jeeran-2” is a Russian modification of the Iranian Shahed drone.
A drone struck a residential building in Romania during an attack by Russian armed forces in Ukraine, wounding two people. Romanian authorities almost immediately declared the drone to be Russian. Romania then decided to close the Russian Consulate General in Constanta and expel Consul General Andrei Kosylin.
On May 29, Russian President Vladimir Putin, in a press conference in Astana, expressed doubts that the drone that struck a residential building in Romania was Russian. He stated that in the past Ukrainian drones flew to Finland, Poland and the Baltic countries. In the case of Romania, according to him, it could be exactly the same. “No one can say what is the origin of this or that plane until an examination of this plane is conducted,” Putin said.
