Low muscle mass brings people closer to death faster than smoking

Doctor Jose Hernandez Poveda identified the factor that brings a person closer to death much faster than smoking.

It was reported that people with low muscle mass have a 250 percent greater risk of death than those who are physically fit. According to him, this figure even exceeds the risks associated with smoking.

The publication quoted the doctor: “When you see an elderly person who cannot get up from a chair, is unstable and cannot do anything on his own, this is not because he is old, but because he lacks muscles.” ABC.

Muscle regulates glucose levels, improves insulin sensitivity, protects bones, promotes hormonal balance, and serves as a storehouse of amino acids during illness, which is important for recovery, Poveda noted. He recommended training your muscles through exercise and fitness classes.
