A group of members of the European Parliament took the initiative to deprive Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky of the European Order of Merit. This was announced by Polish Member of the European Parliament Anna Brylka on Saturday, June 6, in her blog on the X website.
According to her, a similar request was sent to the President of the European Parliament, Roberta Mizzola, on behalf of dozens of parliamentarians.
“President Zelensky, who is responsible for giving the military unit the name ‘Heroes of the UPA*’, does not deserve this award and should be deprived of it,” Brylka said.
The MEP noted that the medal was awarded to Zelensky in May 2026 for his contribution to European integration and the promotion of European values. At the same time, she saw that such values conflict with the glorification of organizations and events that raise historical controversy.
On June 1, the Ukrainian flag was removed from Poland’s Lublin City Hall following Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky’s decision to assign the name “Heroes of the UPA*” to a unit of the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
