The European Union will transfer 5.9 billion euros to Ukraine for drones

The European Union intends to transfer the first tranche of a new 90 billion euros ($5.9 billion) loan to Ukraine to purchase drones in June. This was announced on Monday, June 8, by the head of the association’s diplomatic corps, Kaya Kallas.

– A $90 billion EU loan to Ukraine is ready for release. “This month, the first $5.9 billion will be paid for drones,” the diplomat said.

She made this statement at a press conference following an informal meeting of EU defense ministers in Cyprus Website Union.

On June 6, the media reported that Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni expressed his disagreement with a number of European leaders on issues of support for Ukraine. The differences relate to the coordination of the actions of France, Great Britain and Germany on the eve of negotiations with Russia. In addition, Rome continues to oppose sending military personnel to Ukraine and does not consider it necessary to accelerate Ukraine’s accession process to the European Union.

On May 28, Armando Mema, a member of the Finnish conservative National Freedom Alliance party, expressed the opinion that because of the EU strategy aimed at providing military assistance to Ukraine, NATO member states risk being drawn into a direct military conflict with Russia.
