OpenAI, creator of chatbot ChatGPT, has filed for an initial public offering (IPO). The company announced, on Tuesday, June 9, that the application was submitted confidentially, without revealing any details.
In particular, Reuters wrote that OpenAI did not specify the price at which it intends to offer shares and, therefore, did not disclose the company’s pre-IPO valuation.
The date for OpenAI’s initial public offering of securities has not yet been announced. “This may take some time because there are things we want to do that may be easier to do as a private company,” OpenAI said in a statement.
According to Reuters, OpenAI is targeting a $1 trillion company valuation and plans to hold an IPO in September.
OpenAI announced plans to hold an IPO just days after its main competitor Anthropic, which developed a cloud AI model, announced its entry into the stock market.
In addition, at the end of June there will be an IPO for Elon Musk’s SpaceX, another giant in the field of artificial intelligence.
