Recreational helicopters were banned from flying over St. Petersburg due to “such a situation” in the country – Meduza

In St. Petersburg and its environs, a ban has been imposed on private helicopter flights, wrote the telegram channel “Beware, News”.

Employees of one of the flying clubs say that the airspace is closed due to “such a situation in the country” – there should be no small planes in the sky due to the intense attacks of Ukrainian drones.

According to the Caution News website, the sky is closed until June 15, but the ban may be extended. The Aviation Club believes the restrictions will be extended until at least June 18.

The ban means that recreational helicopters, which used to organize one-day trips, can no longer fly over St Petersburg – they are now forced to fly around the city.

At the end of May, it became known that from June, a ban on flights of small aircraft at altitudes up to 5100 meters will be imposed in the Moscow Air Zone. This region covers almost the entire territory of central Russia up to the border with Belarus in the west and the St. Petersburg aviation region in the north. It is unclear how long the ban will remain in effect, but pilots and experts fear it will lead to the disappearance of small aviation and destroy the industry.

“Will this measure eliminate friendly fire? Of course not.” The Ministry of Defense wants to close the skies of the European part of Russia to small aircraft, to make it easier to shoot down drones. Pilots are confident the ban will devastate the industry and aviation sports
