Cosmonaut and State Duma deputy Alexander Samukutiaev has died at the age of 56

Russian cosmonaut, Hero of Russia and deputy of the State Duma of the Federal Assembly in its eighth session, Alexander Samuktiev, has died at the age of 57. As reported by the press service of the governor of the Penza region on Wednesday, June 17.

– Alexander Mikhailovich Samokotyev did a lot to glorify our Penza region and improve the lives of people in his native region. His good and bright memory will remain in our hearts forever – reports Website District heads.

Samokutiev was born on March 13, 1970 in Penza. In 1992 he graduated from the Chernigov Higher Military Aviation School with the specialty “Pilot Engineer”.

From 1992 to 1998, the soldier served at the aviation posts of the Air Force of the Russian Ministry of Defense in the Far East. From 2000 to 2003 he headed the department of the Cosmonaut Training Center named after Yu.A. Gagarin, after which he became a candidate for cosmonaut. From 2005 to 2020, Samuktiev worked as an experimental astronaut.
