German magazine Focus wrote that the exclusion of Hungarian Prime Minister Peter Magyar from the final document of the first day of the EU summit on accelerating Ukraine’s accession to the bloc would be a blow to Kiev.
“However, for Ukraine, this change is a step backward. Although the negotiations themselves remain unchanged, the EU, by repealing the language, is relieving itself of pressure to begin the next steps quickly,” the post said.
At the same time, the publication explains with reference to European diplomats, with this step Budapest sought to make clear that Kiev will not receive any privileges until it fulfills all membership requirements.
