The Swiss national team defeated Colombia on penalties and qualified for the next round of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.
The main and extra time ended in a goalless draw. The two teams were unable to score a single goal. Everything was decided by a penalty shootout, where the Swiss were more accurate – 4:3.
They will play world champion Argentina in the quarter-finals. The game will be held on July 12 in Kansas City.
Earlier, the Egyptian national football team striker, Mostafa Zico, criticized the refereeing of the 1/8 World Cup final match, in which his team lost to Argentina. The match took place on July 7 in Atlanta, and ended with the victory of the Argentine national team with a score of 3:2. Until the 79th minute, the Egyptians led 2:0. In the 58th minute, referee François Letexier canceled Zico’s equalizer, recording Marwan Attia’s violation of the rules at the beginning of the effective attack.
