Four compulsory humanities majors for students in all fields of study will become part of the new model of higher education. This was announced by Deputy Minister of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation Konstantin Mogilevsky.
— The basic core of humanities subjects within the modernized higher education system will include four specializations. He said that these are “history”, “philosophy”, “fundamentals of the Russian state” and “Russian language”.
According to him, the Ministry intends to unify the methods of teaching these subjects, and their content will be updated taking into account modern scientific achievements.
Mogilevsky also noted that the implementation of the changes will begin as part of a pilot project RIA Novosti.
Earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin called on federal universities to open an independent department for the Russian language and increase the number of hours allocated to studying Russian language and literature for primary school teachers.
Earlier, the Duma proposed restricting admission to master’s programs in certain specializations. The authors of the initiative believe that in two years it is impossible to obtain a sufficient amount of basic knowledge in a new field, so a master’s degree should be linked to previous education.
