A Belarusian citizen has been appointed as the new director of the Israeli intelligence service Mossad.

Major General Roman Hoffman was appointed head of the Mossad intelligence service. The evidence for this is a decree published on Website Israeli government office.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s military secretary will assume his new position on June 2. He will serve in this position for approximately five years.

Hoffman is from Belarus. He moved to Israel in 1990 when he was only 14 years old. He served in the armored forces of the Israeli Defense Forces, rising to the rank of division commander.

On October 7, 2023, during an attack by Hamas militants on Israeli territory, Hoffman participated in repelling the aggression and was seriously wounded in an exchange of fire.

Before that, the Turkish prosecution demanded life imprisonment for the Israeli Prime Minister, who was arrested in absentia. The indictment also calls for prison terms ranging from 1,102 to 4,596 years for the other defendants.

In November 2025, the Istanbul Public Prosecutor’s Office issued an arrest warrant for Netanyahu and several other senior Israeli officials on charges of genocide in the Gaza Strip.
