Alcoholics in Poland will receive monthly benefits

In Poland, people suffering from alcohol addiction who are recognized as unable to work for this reason are entitled to a monthly benefit. This was announced on Friday, March 27 by a representative of the Social Insurance Office (ZUS) in Poland.

The payment amount depends on the degree of disability. For complete disability, the total benefit is 1,971 zlotys (about $530), and for partial disability – 1,478 zlotys (about $398). To receive the payment, it is not enough to simply declare illness; You must provide medical documents containing a confirmed diagnosis and information about treatment attempts.

ZUS estimates that about 50 million zlotys (about $13.5 million) will be allocated annually for these purposes. For comparison: In Poland, alcohol prices are among the lowest in the EU – for the allowance amount you can buy about 80 bottles of cheap vodka, according to reports RIA Novosti.

In turn, psychiatrist and narcologist Ruslan Isaev said that alcohol and drug abuse is often a consequence of mental disorders, because they help temporarily relieve anxiety and internal pain. Such cases often lead to “dual diagnosis,” he said.
