All of the Christmas Movies on Disney Plus Right Now

December is right around the corner, and this year we have a LOT to be thankful for. While many of you might be thinking about your family, your loved ones, or your health – I’m talking more along the lines of a mass abundance of great content to consume. And now that Disney Plus has launched (and already has millions of users), that means we should expect a virtually neverending stream of classic and new movies and shows to watch.

Stream Disney+ Now

In that list of things we’ll be watching when we order Disney Plus this month (and as we head into December) is the massive wave of classic Disney Christmas movies that will be available at launch.

In case you’re unaware of those movies in the list above, there are a few highlights worth noting. First, the first two The Santa Clause movies will be available (yes—only watch the first two; things start to get a bit weird with The Santa Clause 3). Also worth mentioning is the inclusion of The Nightmare Before Christmas on that list — in my expert opinion, the PERFECT November Christmas movie to bridge the gap between Halloween and Christmas. Of course, we’ll forever argue about whether The Nightmare Before Christmas is a Halloween movie or a Christmas movie, but you can read more about that here.

As far as Christmas movies aimed entirely at younger kids, Disney Plus will have Mickey’s Once Upon a Christmas and Mickey’s Twice Upon a Christmas, as well as the Beauty & The Beast: Enchanted Christmas offshoot and A Very Merry Pooh Year.

We do know that Disney intends to add more of their Christmas catalog to the Disney Plus service over time, but what we don’t know is whether or not we’ll be getting any new additions for December 2019.

For now, at least, you can watch all of the Disney Plus Christmas movies right on the Disney Plus app via any smartphone, Roku, Fire TV, Firestick, Xbox One, PS4, or other streaming devices or with any internet browser on your computer.

Disney Plus will run you $6.99/month or $69.99/year. Or, you could also opt for the Disney Plus Bundle that adds Hulu and ESPN+ into the mix for $12.99/month.

Will Disney Be Adding Any Other Christmas Movies in December?

Yes, since launch, Disney has added the following Christmas movies to Disney Plus – just in-time for Christmas:

  • Babes in Toyland
  • Twas the Night
  • Mickey’s Christmas Carol

As it stands right now, it looks like these are the only Disney Plus Christmas movies for the 2019 season. However, we’re fully expecting Disney to add more for 2020.

Disney is definitely in the Christmas mood this year, though, as they also just added the option to gift a Disney Plus subscription.

Any of the older devices will not allow you to stream in 4K, limiting you to a max 1080p, unfortunately. But, if you have any of Roku device that supports 4K, then yes, you can stream Curiosity Stream in 4K on Roku.

What Shows Are on Curiosity Stream?

If you’ve got a need to learn something new, there are plenty of great options on Curiosity Stream. Here are just a few highlights available now:

What to Do If Curiosity Stream Is Not Working On Your Roku?

If Curiosity Stream isn’t working on your Roku device, there are a few things you can try.

The most likely culprit for Curiosity Stream not working on Roku devices is a slow internet connection. You need at least a 5Mbps connection to stream in the lowest resolution, and 15Mbps for 4K. But if your device isn’t getting those speeds, there are a couple of things I would try first.

  1. Restart your router and unplug your Roku device.
  2. Wait 30 seconds.
  3. Plug your Roku device back in.

This will help restart your device’s TCP/IP and internet connection settings so that you have the best chance of getting the best speeds.

If that doesn’t work and you’re still getting slow speeds, it could be due to a crowded network or downloads on other devices. For example, if you’re downloading a game update on STEAM on your PC, any game consoles, or someone else in your home is streaming a movie while you’re trying to watch CuriosityStream, it could cause your Roku to not have the required speed juice it needs to work properly. To most easily rectify the problem, turn off the internet connection on those devices and see if this helps CuriosityStream work again.

Something else you can try if your device is still not working after fixing your internet connection is to ensure you have the latest Roku software on your device. If you don’t, you need to update your device to the latest software for best results.

To do so, go Roku Home>scroll to Settings>Select System>Select System Update>Select Check Now. If Roku finds any new software available or channel updates available, it will download them and install them automatically.

How to Watch Curiosity Stream in 4K on Fire TV

Not all Fire TV devices support 4K streaming, so if you’re planning on streaming Curiosity Stream in 4K with your Fire device, you’ll need one of the following devices:

  • Fire TV Stick 4K
  • Fire TV 2nd Generation and Up
  • Fire TV Cube

Any of the older devices will not allow you to stream in 4K, limiting you to a max 1080p. But if you’ve purchased a brand new fire TV stick in 2015 or beyond, chances are that your device will support Curiosity Stream in 4K.

Internet Speed Requirements for 4K

If you’re planning to stream Curiosity Stream in glorious 4K resolution, you’re going to need an internet connection of at least 25 Mbps (megabits per second). If you’re not sure exactly what internet speed you currently have, head on over to speedtest.net, run the test, and take a look at the first number that pops out (your download speed). If that number reads 25 Mbps or above, you’re good to go for 4K streaming. If it’s slightly lower, you should try to stream Curiosity Stream in 4K to see if it works. And, if it’s anything below 15 Mbps, you’ll need to call up your internet provider and see if there’s an upgrade available.

In my personal experience, Curiosity Stream works flawlessly on Fire devices, and since its U.S. launch, I have yet to experience any hiccups with the app.
