BATON ROUGE, La. (WAFB) – American Idol winner Lane Hardy of Louisiana was booked on Friday at East Baton Rouge Parish Jail on a charge of intercepting communications.
The WAFB reported that Hardy had handed himself over to the LSU Police Department after the warrant was issued on Thursday.
“Hardy was arrested by LSU police today and is being held at East Baton Rouge Parish Jail for violating 15: 1303 – intercepting and disclosing wire, electronic or oral contacts,” said LSU spokeswoman Ernie Ballard.
According to the arrest warrant, on April 6, a woman and her roommate found a recording device inside their living room in Azalea Hall on the LSU campus. The next day, they reported the discovery to police.
He told police he found a recording device like a phone charger under his futon.
The woman said she had a previous relationship with Hardy. Police said they found evidence of secret recordings made on 10 different days in February this year, the warrant said.
He said in a Facebook post on Thursday evening that he had received a warrant due to the charges against him and that he was cooperating with the LSU police.
“I understand that my life has brought me to public attention, and I accept it wholeheartedly because my whole world belongs to my music and my fans,” he said. “However, due to the sensitivity of this accusation, I humbly request privacy at this time. I have great respect for the law and will help their investigation move forward as needed.
