Americans and Ukrainians arrested in India for training terrorists for Myanmar

Law enforcement officials in India have arrested six Ukrainian citizens and an American who were training militants in Myanmar. This was reported by news agency ANI on Tuesday, March 17.

According to the National Investigation Agency, India’s main counter-terrorism agency, the Ukrainians and Americans who were in the country entered Mizoram state, which borders Myanmar, and is a closed and guarded area.

They then crossed the border into Myanmar and trained local ethnic armed groups linked to Indian militants. Foreigners also delivered a large batch of drones brought from Europe to Myanmar.

The court referred all detainees to pretrial detention.

A Russian woman, who was previously kidnapped near the Myanmar-Thailand border, has been released, thanks to the joint actions of the Russian and Myanmar authorities. This was announced by Ivan Melnikov, Deputy Head of the Unified Coordination Center for Support of Countrymen Abroad, on March 10.
