Amphibious aircraft helps fight the only out-of-control fire in Cantabria

Santander, 23 September (EFE) — This Friday in Cantabria, work continues to put out the fire in Polaciones with an amphibious aircraft of the Ministry of Ecological Transition, as these areas are difficult to access and environmentally friendly. importance, and the one from Sejos, who also concentrated the efforts of the brigades yesterday, was considered controlled.

To stabilize the fire of the Polaciones, an amphibious aircraft of the 43rd group, coordinated by the Ministry of Ecological Transition, is currently operating; a group of forest firefighters equipped with a fire truck; Natural Environment Agents of the Ministry of the Environment; and the Leone Wildfire Intensification Brigade (BRIF).

The Cantabrian Executive also reports that in the past few hours there have been three new fires in Arenas de Iguña, Herrerias and Voto, although the first two have been extinguished and one in Voto is under control.

In Sejos, which is also under control, the Natural Environment agents work together with a squad of forest firefighters equipped with a fire truck.

So far in September this year, 46 forest fires have been registered in Cantabria, of which only the fires in Polaciones, Sejos and Voto remain active.

A level 2 wildfire warning remains active in 13 forested areas, in addition to maintaining a ban on burning throughout the Autonomous Community.

The Cantabrian government recalls that burning is prohibited and asks “to stop the social aiding that protects arsonists, whose actions cause serious environmental and economic damage and pose a danger to the health of the population and people’s lives.”

For this reason, he urges citizens to identify these people, avoid risky activities and cooperate with the authorities to report any sign of a fire by contacting 112, the Ministry of Rural Development or the Civil Guard.
