Near the Seneb cemetery in the Qurna area on the western mainland of Luxor, archaeologists discovered eight intact papyri estimated to be about 3,000 years old. As reported by Fox News.
These manuscripts, dating back to the Third Intermediate Period (1070 – 664 BC), were carefully hidden in a large earthenware vessel. Some of them still have the original seals. Experts are now working to restore it and prepare for decryption. The finds promise to become an invaluable source of knowledge about ancient Egyptian history.
The researchers also discovered a burial chamber containing coffins belonging to servants of the worship of the god Amun. Other finds include a 1,600-year-old Christian monastery decorated with ancient paintings and engravings. Although it is still difficult to determine the identity of those buried since the coffins are only titles, the artifacts will shed light on the religious, social and cultural life of Egypt in different eras.
These are not the first discoveries related to the history of ancient civilization that have been made recently. Earlier, archaeologists discovered an underwater port near the ancient temple of Taposiris Magna in Egypt, which, according to researchers, could lead to the burial place of Cleopatra and her lover Mark Antony.
