MMA journalist Ariel Helwani thinks Khabib Nurmagomedov’s status as MMA’s GOAT is up for debate as he has only defended the lightweight title three times in his career.

During the last segment of In the nosea show where Helwani answers questions from fans, the 40-year-old was asked if Nurmagomedov’s unbeaten record (29-0) was the only reason many consider him the greatest fighter of all time.

According to Helwani, while “The Eagle’s” undefeated streak is certainly impressive, his lack of title defenses compared to fighters such as Jon Jones and Anderson Silva has put his all-time best status up for debate:

“I think Khabib’s GOAT status is questionable. It’s not me getting into politics or any comment on how I feel about anything… If you think his current GOAT status given his current record is indisputable, you’re crazy. Only three title defenses, you’re all crazy.”

The Canadian-born journalist added:

“If everyone is available, you can’t compare his resume to Jon Jones’. You can’t compare what he did to what Anderson Silva did, you can’t. You can’t compare what he did to Georges St-Pierre, you can “I’m not even comparing him to DC. I’m sorry. Why is that even a question?…I’m not saying that it can’t be included, I’m not saying it’s definitive, just look at the numbers, look at the CV.”

Conor McGregor accuses Khabib Nurmagomedov of hiding from rematch

Former two-time UFC champion Conor McGregor has taken aim at Khabib Nurmagomedov again, accusing the Russian fighter of repeatedly dodging a rematch between the two.

McGregor and Nurmagomedov last fought over four years ago in one of the greatest UFC grudge matches of all time. The rivalry was personal and bitter for much of the build. In the fight, “The Eagle” managed to submit the Irishman in the fourth round of UFC 229.

UFC 229 is infamous for its chaos after the main event, as a fight broke out between the teams of McGregor and Nurmagomedov inside and outside the octagon. According to ‘Notorious’, the Russian fighter bottled up his rivalry for the second time:

“Actually you know what I don’t wanna fight the smell bag there’s way better fights out there but know the greatest wet bed in fighting history is what this guy is . Think how big this fight would be. Absolute you’re a bottler. Father’s gonna slap you 100%”

Actually, you know what I don’t mean to fight the smell bag, there are much better fights out there, but know that the greatest wet bed in fighting history is what this guy is. Think about the magnitude of that battle injury. Absolute bottler that you are. Father will slap you 100%

If the pair ever did fight, it would likely be one of the best-selling pay-per-views of all time. Their first fight currently holds the record with over 2.4 million buys, but a second fight between Conor McGregor and Khabib Nurmagomedov could definitely top the list.
