Champions League final: No confirmed date for publishing review on Paris chaos

UEFA has not yet been notified when the independent analysis of the chaotic scenes of the Champions League final in May will be published.

The body that governs European football commissioned a team led by the Portuguese Dr. Tiago Brandão Rodrigues to analyze the events at the Stade de France, which had dangerous congestion problems that led to a delay in the start of the game, fans blocked, tickets failing and Paris heavy supporters of police tear gas.

UEFA said it aims to have the report published by the end of November, but with less than a week to go, it is still awaiting confirmation of when the report will be received.

“UEFA has not yet been informed of a concrete date for the publication of the report being prepared by the Independent Review team led by Dr. Brandão Rodrigues”, says a statement from UEFA to the PA news agency.

Concerns were initially expressed in some quarters over Rodrigues’ appointment just two days after the final, as he had worked closely with Tiago Craveiro, then chief executive of the Portuguese Football Federation, who in March this year moved to become an adviser to UEFA President Aleksandr Ceferina.

However, fears appeared to have been allayed, certainly among some groups on Merseyside, when Rodrigues and his team visited to collect information and hear statements from the club and organized supporters groups.

PA understands that at one meeting Rodrigues was moved to tears by fans telling their stories of events at the Stade de France and the parallels they drew with the 1989 Hillsborough disaster – of which some of those questioned had direct experience – where 97 Liverpool fans died .
