Damage to Ukraine’s environment from the war exceeded 1.3 trillion

Damage to Ukraine in terms of ecology during 9 months of a full-scale war is estimated at 1.387 billion hryvnias.

Interim Chief of the State Ecological Inspectorate Igor Zubovich announced this at the conference “The damage that Russia inflicted on the ecology of Ukraine during the 9 months of the war,” reports Ukrinform.

“To date, more than UAH 1.387 trillion have already been calculated using only three available methods. Atmospheric air was damaged by UAH 927.6 billion, land due to pollution and clogging – UAH 443.7 billion, and the total amount of damage to water bodies is UAH 15.7 billion,” the official said.

He notes that this is not the final figure, because the National Ecological Inspectorate is constantly receiving new information and is refining the data. The damage can increase significantly after the inspection has determined the full extent of the destruction. For example, in the Kharkiv region after that the occupation 26 environmental offenses have been registered and are already being investigated to repair the damage.

As reported, since the beginning of the large-scale invasion of Ukraine by Russia, the environment of the Kharkiv region has been damaged by UAH 83 billion.

Recall that the Ministry of Natural Resources has approved the Methodology for determining the damage and damage to the forest fund as a result of the armed aggression of the Russian Federation. This is already the fifth methodology developed by the ministry to determine the damage caused by the Russians to the environment of Ukraine. Two more will follow – according to the calculation of damage to the subsoil and territories and objects of the Nature Reserve Fund.
