It’s not uncommon for TV fans to compare themselves to strong fictional characters, ask Danielle Kelly.

The phenomenon of struggle is seen in Game of Thrones protagonist Daenerys Targaryen as both try to lead their subjects, in Kelly’s case, her students, in their quest to achieve what they see as their goal.

In an interview with ONE Championship, Kelly said she was a fan of dragons and that Targaryen was the mother of dragons that resonated greatly with her.

Given that the destined queen of Westeros, as Targaryen believes herself, is a strong female figure, Kelly quickly resonated with the character of Emilia Clarke.

Danielle Kelly said:

“I want to be Daenerys. I feel like we like to identify with each other because I’m a coach, so I kind of lead a group. With her, I guess she came out of nowhere. If I remember correctly , she was trying to find herself or create her own team, over time she built a whole team for herself and grew as a leader.

When not competing, Kelly is a diligent teacher who travels to different parts of the United States to pass on her knowledge of the magnificent martial art of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.

She gained even more notoriety when she joined ONE Championship last March and put on a stellar debut performance against the ever-dangerous Mei Yamaguchi in a submission grappling match.

Kelly added:

“I also see myself as a leader. I also like dragons. So if I’m going to be in Game of Thrones, I want to ride a dragon. It would be really cool if I had a pet dragon. I just like his character. But I don’t like the way they ended up making her the bad guy. I mean, I don’t think that’s how she was at all. And it’s a female. So it’s really cool to see a female lead playing a big part in the show. And she helped others. I like helping people.”

Targaryen has three dragons in Game of Thrones, Drogon, Rhaegal and Viserion. She is also one of only two dragon riders in the series along with her nephew-turned-lover Jon Snow, her choice of mount being Drogon. Snow, meanwhile, received Rhaegal.

Danielle Kelly may not be leading dragons to war, but she’s certainly taken care of her own battlefield in the mats and possibly inside the circle.

Danielle Kelly expresses disappointment with Game of Thrones finale

Game of Thrones was one of the television series that defined the 2010s with its gripping narrative and engrossing warfare. It aired for eight seasons from 2011 to 2019, with the eighth splitting the fan base in half.

While some were happy with how the series ended, some didn’t like it at all. One of those fans who was disappointed with the later episodes is Danielle Kelly.

The female atomweight grappler said in the same ONE Championship interview that the show’s runners botched not only the ending, but also the development of Jaime Lannister, who was played by Nikolaj Coster-Waldau.

“Actually, I like Jaime Lannister, but [I think] they really messed up the ending. I didn’t like him and his sister [Cersei] during the first part of the show, because he was kind of like a villain. I think over time it was changing,” Danielle Kelly said.
