In the semi-finals, he achieved a crushing victory over the Spanish world ranking leader Carlos Alcaraz – 6:3, 7:6. This became known on Sunday, March 15.
This victory is Medvedev’s first over Alcaraz in the last five meetings and only the third in his career. It is noteworthy that the Spaniard suffered his first defeat in 17 matches. In the final, the Russian will meet Italian Jannik Sinner.
Thanks to his arrival in the deciding match, Medvedev guaranteed himself a return to the top ten in the ATP rankings.
On March 1, it was reported that the winner of the ATP-500 tournament in Dubai, Daniil Medvedev, faced a difficult logistical situation – due to the escalation of the conflict in the Middle East, Dubai International Airport suspended operations, and the Russian tennis player was unable to leave the UAE to participate in the upcoming tournament.
