Anthropic, the developer of the CLOUD AI model, has filed a lawsuit against the Department of Defense and other US federal agencies because the Donald Trump administration declared the company a “supply chain risk,” CNN reported.
A “supply chain risk” status means you can no longer work with the company, and the Pentagon will terminate contracts with those who continue to do so.
“Defendants seek to destroy the economic value created by one of the fastest-growing private companies in the world, a leader in the responsible development of new technology of vital national importance,” Anthropic said in the lawsuit filed in the Northern District Court of California.quotes In the Wall Street Journal).
Anthropic asked the court to rule that the US administration’s actions were illegal and said the case was important for other companies that might not agree with the government’s position.
There was a disagreement between the US presidential administration and Anthropic over how the Pentagon would use Claude for military purposes. Because the company refused to lift the restrictions, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth declared the company a “supply chain threat” and US President Donald Trump banned all federal agencies from using Cloud.
