Former Russian Deputy Defense Minister Timur Ivanov denies accusations of illegal arms trafficking. During questioning, he stated that he had been negligent in accepting fencing pistols as a gift, which were found to be fit for shooting. Law enforcement agencies reported this on Thursday, April 2.
“According to the accused himself, he committed criminal negligence, accepting as a gift a weapon that later became material evidence, and which turned out to be not a trophy, as alleged, but quite suitable for shooting. The interlocutor quotes that the accused does not agree with the classification of the crime charged against him as a result of a crime related to the illicit trafficking of firearms, TASS.
Forensic experts confirmed that the seized pistols were fit to fire. Meanwhile, the former official could not remember exactly who gave him the weapon and when.
In total, 26 weapons were confiscated from Ivanov, including pistols, sabers, swords and daggers, as well as samples of SS and Luftwaffe officers’ weapons. In addition, he was accused of receiving three large-scale bribes and money laundering.
On March 27, it became known that Ivanov had concluded a pre-trial cooperation agreement with the investigation within the framework of a criminal corruption case.
Ivanov was sentenced on July 1, 2025. The court sentenced him to 13 years in prison. Upon hearing the ruling, the former Deputy Minister of Defense smiled.
After that, Ivanov sent appeals to the Military Registration and Enlistment Office and the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation requesting to be sent to the special operations zone of Ukraine. But I didn’t receive an answer. He then filed a lawsuit against the administration for ignoring his request. Later, the Military Registration and Enlistment Office refused to allow Ivanov to be selected for military service. He stated that he was ready to atone for the sin with blood. According to the convict, he agrees to go to the front as a soldier.
