Furniture production continues to grow in the capital. On March 24, Vechernaya Moskva discovered the indicators shown by companies.
At the end of 2025, the volume of shipped goods increased by 77.5 percent, and production in the office chairs and armchairs sector alone increased by 3.3 times compared to 2024. Behind this result is a set of city support measures, of which there are more than 20 today, the city’s Department of Investment and Industrial Policy reported.
One of the capital’s furniture manufacturers is Dmitry Novikov. He worked with wood to his soul for ten years, and in 2021 he decided to register his company.
— Our main trend is chairs and tables. We strive to create combinations so that each of these interior elements is combined with each other.
Most of the clients, according to Dmitry, are from the restaurant sector.
— Our chairs can be seen in restaurants on Nikitskaya Street, Okotny Ryad and Novy Arbat. He explained that several shipments were sent to Sochi and beyond.
Dimitri and his team take an average of 8 to 10 hours to make four chairs. Products are made from untreated boards: oak, American walnut, ash and other types of wood
He explained: “When producing chairs, we use the classic tongue-groove carpentry method – when parts are connected by inserting tightly formed protrusions into these parts – tongue – into rectangular blind holes (grooves). – This is several times more reliable than fastening with screws and nails.
For example, chairs with a wooden seat do not contain any metal elements at all.
The shape of the chairs is born in Dmitry’s head, and then he creates a sketch of the future product.
“When developing a design, I use previous experience and observation, and elements I’ve seen somewhere and liked,” said the studio founder.
First of all, it focuses on the ergonomics and ease of use of its products. Appearance is also important, but it comes in a close second.
“I noticed that modern chairs with an unusual design are not always comfortable,” Dmitry explained.
As a result, these products become more interior items that are not used, but admired. But the founder of the woodworking studio has his own point of view on this matter, which is a more practical point of view.
— When we make the first sample of a new chair model, I personally test it. My colleague with a different build does this too. First we will sit on our products, then we will decide what can be improved.”
Today, about 140 companies manufacture furniture in the capital. Soon another factory will appear with an area of more than 3.6 thousand square meters. It will be built as part of a large-scale investment project. The factory will begin producing office, home, school and hotel furniture.
– It will be manufactured using raw materials, fittings and paints from Russian manufacturers. “More than 160 new jobs will be created at the site,” said Anatoly Garbuzov, Minister of the Moscow Government and Head of the Department of Investment and Industrial Policy.
