G7 countries call on the UN to respond decisively to North Korean missile launches

G-7 foreign ministers called on the UN Security Council to take “decisive action” in response to North Korea’s latest ICBM launch.

This was reported in Reuters referring to the statement of the G7 foreign ministers, reports Ukrinform.

“The unprecedented series of illegal ballistic missile launches by (North Korea) in 2022 poses a serious threat to regional and international peace and security,” the statement said.

The G7 document noted that Pyongyang’s test of a ballistic missile capable of reaching the US mainland was a “reckless act” and “another flagrant violation” of UN resolutions.

It is known that at the request of the United States, the Security Council will hold a meeting on Monday to discuss DPRK policy after the latest series of ongoing test launches of missiles.

As Ukrinform reported, North Korea since Friday morning launched intercontinental ballistic missile towards the Sea of ​​Japan. According to preliminary information, it could be the intercontinental ballistic missile Hwasong-17, similar to the one tested on November 3, but then the launch was unsuccessful. It is believed that this is the most powerful missile, its possible range is up to 15 thousand kilometers.

In this regard, the United States made plans on Friday urgent negotiations with the leaders of Japan, South Korea, Australia, New Zealand and Canada.
