In recent months, Google has been steadily adding new tools to help consumers make greener choices when using their services. how Google Maps, Google flightsas well as hotel search. On Tuesday the company announced it expands on those efforts with several new features that allow travelers to better filter their searches to make smarter choices when booking flights or hotels, as well as improved train options.

The new features complement Google’s existing capabilities that allow consumers to view environmental information about their travel preferences, such as estimated flight carbon emissions or whether hotels have an “eco-label” from a trusted third-party group. , noted Google.

Web search users will now be able to directly filter their flight and hotel searches to completely remove erratic options from their search results, and they can more easily book trains through Google services.

To meet the needs of environmentally conscious air travelers, Google Flights has added a “Low Emissions” filter that allows you to only show flights with lower emissions than similar flights when searching.

Similarly, when searching for hotels on Google.com/travel, you can click on the new “eco-certified” filter to see a list containing only eco-certified hotels.

Google noted that it worked directly with organizations, including US Green Building Councilwhich provides LEED ratings, and Global Council for Sustainable Tourism to improve the accuracy of your travel search results by importing your databases of eco-certified hotels.

The company is also making it easier to book trains through its travel services, something that used to be difficult to do as it required a separate search to find prices and timetables, the report said. Now, when you search for a query related to a train, such as “Trains from Berlin to Vienna”, a new module will appear that will allow you to select a departure date and then compare different timetables.

This allows travelers to consider trains, which may be a more sustainable option compared to traveling by car or plane, but they only run in select countries such as Germany, Spain, Italy and Japan.

Google said it will expand the feature to more locations over time as it has connected other rail providers and is working on building a similar feature for bus tickets.
