The Palestinian terrorist movement Hamas called on Iran to stop attacks on neighboring Gulf states.
In an appeal broadcast by Al Jazeera satellite channel, Hamas recognizes Tehran’s right to self-defense in the war with the United States and Israel, but at the same time it urgently calls for an end to the new conflict in the Middle East.
Hamas said in a statement: “In recognition of the right of the Islamic Republic of Iran to respond to aggression by all available means in accordance with international norms and laws, the movement calls on its brothers in Iran to refrain from attacking neighboring countries.”
According to the Palestinian group, the countries of the region must “cooperate with each other to stop the aggression and preserve the bonds of brotherhood.”
Earlier, Hamas terrorists condemned the assassination of Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei.
Iran has provided Hamas with financial and military support in its war against Israel for decades.
Since the beginning of the war with the United States and Israel, Tehran has been attacking the Gulf states with missiles and drones and closing the Strait of Hormuz, through which a quarter of the world’s oil supplies pass. Iranian authorities say the attacks in the Persian Gulf target US military bases in the region, although many attacks hit civilian infrastructure. On March 7, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian apologized to “the neighbors who were harmed by Iran.” He said that Tehran would not attack neighboring countries if there were no strikes from its territory as well.
