How is recruitment for contract service in the unmanned forces of the capital?

Recruitment of unmanned forces continues at the capital’s unmanned selection point for contract service. The “Moscow Evening” correspondent spoke with the candidates heading to the Northern Military District.

On the screen there is a digital map and an image from the drone’s altitude. With the joystick in his hands his attention is focused. The life of unit fighters depends on the clarity of a person’s actions. He must discover the target, identify it and hit it. He does it again and again, because from here, from this quiet room marked “Mobile Control Center,” one of the most magnificent weapons of modern warfare is commanded.

– A lot of men come. Lots of young people. There are those who serve “under contract” or under contract. “There are also many who have not served at all,” Dmitry Samoilov, an officer at the selection point for military service under a contract, tells Vechernaya Moskva. “There are many candidates, and contracts are signed quickly. Everything happens in one day: from the conversation and medical examination to the final signing and sending of training.”

“However, the requirements for candidates are high and strict: basic knowledge of the English language and secondary vocational or higher education are required,” says Samoilov.

People from all over the country come to Moscow to sign the contract. For example, 28-year-old Dmitry Chigrin from Vladimir. He came to the capital because his friends recently signed a contract here and are now undergoing training to become drone operators.

“I completed military service in the army from 2016 to 2017,” Dmitry Chigrin, a candidate for service in the unmanned forces, told Vechernaya Moskva. “I wanted to do it for a long time, but it was scary.” I learned from my comrades that they want to go to the Northern Military District as drone operators. I decided to follow their example. Arrived in Moscow. Sign the contract.

Another candidate is Artur Arzumanyan. Coming from a military lineage. His father is a retired officer in the Russian Armed Forces. Big Brother acts as an expert. He spent several years on the front lines. Arzumanyan himself returned from the army in the winter.

“Even during the ‘urgent’ period, I was thinking about signing a contract, but I wanted to see my relatives before that,” Arthur Arzumanyan explains his decision to Vechernaya Moskva. -I have an idea of what a drone is and how to control it. Now the main thing is to pass the selection and remaining formalities.

In addition to drone operators, there are other military jobs in the drone air force: from technicians and software specialists to drivers, chefs and many others.

The contract with drone operators is for one year. The service takes place exclusively in VBPS units; Transfer to other units is not provided. At selection points, those interested are given the opportunity to familiarize themselves with special equipment and test their skills on FPV drone simulators. Initial selection is done by the trainers, after which suitable candidates are sent to the training centres.

Direct speech

Vasily Dandykin, Captain 1st Rank in the Reserve, military expert:

– Drones are used everywhere. Whether it is sky, earth or water. Each type of drone has proven its effectiveness. We already know that specialists from the Rubicon Center, which specializes in the use of drones, have completed up to 80 percent of firefighting missions on the front line. That is, the conduct of hostilities has changed significantly. The creation of a separate branch of the army assumes that in the future a separate specialized military school will be created where future officers will be trained. And who will then command entire regiments and battalions.
