How should reflective clothing be in traffic?

With the amendment made in the Highway Traffic Regulation, it is obligatory to wear reflective clothing to those who use motorcycles, bicycles, mopeds and electric scooters. Controls have started, but the change is causing confusion and controversy in traffic implementations. Advanced Driving Instructor Zafer Akçay told Haberturk.com about the details of the relevant articles and the problems experienced in practice.

REFLECTIVE JACKET IS ENOUGH

Stating that he received complaints from some motorcycle riders that he was fined for not wearing a vest despite having a reflective coat, Akçay said, “There is confusion in the practices, but the amendment made in the regulation is actually very clearly expressed in Article 4. “So it includes reflective coats. If the coat is reflective, there is no need for an extra vest,” he said.

“OUR ISSUE IS LOOKING”

“Our engines have headlights and taillights, why such a requirement?” Akçay said that there were reactions in the form of “For example, you had an accident at night in TEM and you fell off the engine and drifted to the other lane. Don’t you want the vehicles behind you to see you?” he said. Expressing that the regulation also covers bicycle, motor bike and electric scooter drivers, Zafer Akçay said, “Our only concern is to be visible. It is even more important for them because their visibility is less.”

WHAT DOES ‘PASSENGERS WILL BE DENIED’ MEAN?

Saying that if the driver does not have reflective clothing, Zafer Akçay said, “If the driver does not wear this outfit, he will be detained.” “This means that the passenger will not be able to continue on that motorcycle,” he said.

“NOT LUXURIOUS, TAX REDUCTION CAN BE CONSIDERED”

Not only reflective clothing for a safe journey; Pointing out that helmets, gloves, motorcycle jackets, trousers, boots or boots are also a must, Advanced Driving Instructor Zafer Akçay said, “If even one of these is missing, you are at risk.” Akçay said, “These are not luxurious clothes, they are clothes that protect our health and lives, and they are expensive in Turkish conditions. We have a special request from our state here, the taxes on protected clothes should be reduced.”
