Quantum Leap was a groundbreaking science fiction show that aired from 1989 to 1993. Now, 30 years later, the show is being resurrected with a new time jumping scientist. But remember, Dr. Sam Beckett (Scott Bakula) is still out there, time jumping and helping people, so fans of the original series are no doubt hoping the two jumpers’ paths will cross someday.

The description of the NBC revival reads:

It has been almost 30 years since Dr. Sam Beckett entered the Quantum Leap accelerator and disappeared. Now a new team, led by physicist Ben Song (Raymond Lee), has been assembled to restart the project in hopes of understanding the mysteries behind the machine and the man who built it.

However, everything changes when Ben makes an unauthorized jump into the past, leaving the team to unravel the mystery of why he did it. Beside Ben during his jumps is Addison (Caitlin Bassett), who appears as a hologram that only Ben can see and hear. She is a distinguished veteran of the army, who approaches her work with balanced precision.

At the helm of a highly confidential operation is Herbert “Magic” Williams (Ernie Hudson), a no-nonsense military professional who must report to his superiors, who will not be pleased to learn of a breach of protocol. The rest of the team at headquarters includes Ian Wright (Mason Alexander Park), who leads Ziggy’s AI division, and Jenn Chow (Nanrisa Lee), who leads the project’s digital security.

As Ben jumps from life to life, fixing what once went wrong, it becomes clear that he and his team are on an exciting journey. However, Addison, Magic, Ian and Jenn know that if they are going to solve the mystery of Ben’s jumps and bring him back home, they must act quickly or lose him forever.

Unfortunately, Bakula’s co-star Dean Stockwell, who played the hologram of Al, died in November 2021 at the age of 85, so he won’t be appearing in the new series, unfortunately. But fingers crossed to see some other familiar faces from the original show, which earned six Emmys and two Golden Globes during its original run.

The premiere episode of the revival is titled “July 13, 1985” and its description reads: “A new team is being assembled to restart the Quantum Leap Project; lead physicist Ben Song makes an unauthorized jump to 1985 while the team tries to figure out what happened and how to get it back.”

Then, on September 26, the second episode, titled “Atlantis”, is released. His description reads: “Ben goes into orbit aboard the Space Shuttle Atlantis in 1995; Addison confesses the discovery to Ian and finds himself at odds with Magic and Jenn.”

Quantum Leap premieres Monday, September 19 at 10 p.m. ET/PT on NBC.
