Belgium vs Canada preview

Belgium is second in the FIFA men’s rankings and is the favorite to win here. The Canadian team is ranked 41st in the world, but they are not going to lose.

“We want to surprise people because I think people still see us as losers; Canada and the World Cup, they should just be happy to be here,” Canadian linebacker Jonathan Osorio said via the Vancouver Sun. “But this is not our mentality. We are here to compete, to compete at the highest level. We believe that within our group, with the quality we have and with our brotherhood, we can go as far as we want.”

Belgium is also not invulnerable. The Red Devils lost 2-0 to Egypt in a pre-Cup pre-Cup friendly and manager Roberto Martinez says the defeat may have been a revelation for his team.

“It wasn’t the result or performance we had hoped for, but maybe we needed it,” Martinez said after the loss. “Egypt, of course, deserved to win, but such a result is unacceptable before the World Cup. The mentality must change. So that’s a good wake up call.”
